The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office has reported that a Ligonier man is currently facing charges following a devastating incident where he struck and tragically killed a 7-year-old girl who was crossing the street on Monday afternoon.

According to detectives, emergency services were alerted to a collision on CR 600 S at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Monday, June 17. It was determined that 26-year-old Eric David Estrada was travelling eastbound on the road when he collided with one of two pedestrians who were in the process of crossing the street.

The young girl, identified as 7-year-old Alivia Miller from Millersburg, sadly succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident. Fortunately, the other pedestrian involved in the incident did not sustain any injuries.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Estrada was operating his vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the collision. As a result, he was promptly apprehended and charged with OWI causing death by the authorities. His bail has been set at $30,000.
