Accident – Death – Obituary News :
The Cook County Medical Examiner has officially identified the woman who tragically lost her life in a boating accident near Winnetka as Cristen Bolan, aged 53.
The incident occurred late Sunday night when Bolan and another woman set sail on a 12-foot sailboat from Evanston. Unfortunately, the sailboat capsized near Winnetka, resulting in a search and rescue operation being initiated.
Details of the Tragic Accident
According to reports, one of the passengers managed to swim approximately 2 miles to Tower Road Beach, where authorities were alerted to the missing woman. The boat was found 2 to 3 miles from shore, prompting a coordinated effort between the Winnetka Fire Department, the local Coast Guard station in Wilmette, and neighbouring municipalities to locate Bolan and the boat.
By the time Bolan was pulled from Lake Michigan a mile offshore north of Winnetka, she had tragically passed away. The Chicago Fire Department attempted to resuscitate her while en route to Montrose Harbor, but she was pronounced deceased upon arrival.
Investigation Ongoing
At the time of reporting, the medical examiner had not disclosed Bolan’s hometown or the cause of her death. The incident is not connected to other water-related incidents in the area, including the search for a missing swimmer near Oak Street Beach and Navy Pier.
The Coast Guard has confirmed that both individuals were wearing life preservers at the time of the accident, highlighting the importance of water safety measures.
