Accident – Death – Obituary News : Fairview School District officials have stepped up to provide much-needed support to high school students, families, and staff members in the wake of a tragic incident. A 17-year-old student, Cadence Gannoe, lost her life in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 79 in Millcreek Township on Sunday. The district has taken proactive measures to address the emotional impact of this loss by offering counseling and psychological support services.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to parents and guardians, Fairview School District officials shared the news of Cadence’s passing and outlined the support services available to the school community. Counselors and psychologists will be on hand to provide emotional assistance to students and staff members during scheduled sessions at the high school’s Chill Room. These sessions are set to take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, as well as Wednesday evenings, to accommodate different schedules and preferences.

Cadence, who was on the brink of entering her senior year at Fairview High School, was tragically pronounced dead at UPMC Hamot following the fateful accident. The crash occurred on a Sunday afternoon in the northbound lanes of I-79, near the Kearsarge exit at Interchange Road. Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook confirmed Cadence as the victim of the crash, a heartbreaking reality further underscored by a GoFundMe campaign set up in her honour.

Pennsylvania State Police provided details of the accident, indicating that Cadence was a passenger in a 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by a 19-year-old Fairview woman. The Mitsubishi, while merging onto I-79 from the Interchange Road onramp, veered from the right travel lane into the left travel lane, colliding with a 2014 Mini Cooper driven by a 38-year-old man from Pittsburgh. Subsequently, the Mitsubishi lost control, overturning multiple times and ejecting Cadence before coming to a rest on its roof.

Both Cadence and the Mitsubishi driver were rushed to UPMC Hamot for medical attention. While specifics regarding the driver’s injuries were not disclosed, the driver of the Mini Cooper emerged from the accident unscathed. The Pennsylvania State Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, seeking to uncover any contributing factors that led to this devastating outcome.

As the Fairview community grapples with this profound loss, the district remains committed to providing ongoing support and guidance to those affected by the tragedy.
