Authorities in Sibu have confirmed that the body of one of the two individuals who were feared drowned in Belaga has been discovered. The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Balavishnu Permaloo from Kedah, Malaysia. However, Rhuban Apparoo, 30, also from Kedah, remains missing as the search efforts continue, according to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s latest update on Tuesday.

Details of the incident

The tragic incident occurred when five individuals, including Balavishnu and Rhuban, embarked on a leisure ride in a rented longboat at around 4pm on Sunday. Unfortunately, the boat capsized after being hit by strong waves near Rumah Apan Menjawah in Belaga. The boat’s skipper managed to rescue the other three passengers, but Balavishnu and Rhuban were unable to be saved.

Discovery of Balavishnu’s body

Residents in the area found Balavishnu’s body at 1.15pm on Tuesday, approximately 50 meters away from the location where the longboat sank. The search efforts for Rhuban are ongoing, with authorities hopeful for a positive outcome.

As the search for Rhuban Apparoo continues, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, along with local authorities and volunteers, are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to locate the missing individual. The community has also rallied together to provide support and assistance in the search operation.
