In a heartbreaking incident in Shivajinagar, Pune, a college student lost his life after falling into a shaft of a defunct lift. The victim, identified as 19-year-old Ajay Ashok Mirande from Shivajinagar, was a resident of Ahmednagar. Following the tragic incident, Ajay’s father, Ashok Mirande, filed a complaint at Shivajinagar Police Station, resulting in legal action being taken against the trustees, rector, and security guard of J.P. Trivedi Memorial Trust’s Madhukant Amulakh Hostel.

The individuals implicated in the case include the trustees of the hostel, rector Anjana Ketan Motiwala, and security guard Subhash Surve. They have been charged under sections 304(a) (death by negligence) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The tragic incident took place on 15th March at the J.P. Trivedi Memorial Trust’s Madhukant Amulakh Hostel situated in the Ghole Road area of Shivajinagar. Ajay and his friend were using the malfunctioning lift when the mishap occurred. Security guard Surve allegedly failed to provide proper assistance when the lift malfunctioned, ultimately leading to Ajay’s fatal injuries after being advised to jump. Investigations revealed that rector Motiwala had not ensured adequate training for security guards to handle such emergency situations. Subsequently, Ajay’s father, Ashok, decided to press charges against the hostel officials, prompting Police Sub Inspector Bade from Shivajinagar Police Station to oversee the investigation.
