NPR Host Tonya Mosley Discovers Long-Lost Sister’s Tragic Fate

A serendipitous phone call set NPR host Tonya Mosley on a poignant journey to uncover the fate of a sister she never knew she had. The discovery unfolded when Mosley received a call in 2004 from Antonio Wiley, her nephew, who disclosed that her sister Anita Wiley had disappeared in Detroit in 1987 and was later found murdered.

At the time of Anita’s disappearance, Antonio was just 14 years old. Mosley, who was raised by her mother without knowledge of her father’s other family, always anticipated such a revelation. The news of Anita’s disappearance and tragic end came as a shock but also offered a sense of closure.

For years, Mosley and Antonio delved into records, interviewed detectives, and speculated about what might have happened to Anita. Their efforts culminated in 2020 when DNA analysis confirmed the identity of a body discovered in a burned vacant house shortly after Anita went missing. The body, initially labelled as “unknown woman 1987,” was indeed Anita.

Authorities suspect that Anita, who battled drug addiction, was the victim of a heinous crime. The revelation shed light on Anita’s struggles, allowing Mosley to confront and honour her sister’s memory.

New Podcast “She Has A Name” Explores Anita’s Life

Mosley’s quest for answers about her half-sister’s life and tragic demise is chronicled in a compelling 10-episode podcast titled “She Has A Name.” The podcast, which intertwines elements of memoir and true crime, has resonated with a wide audience and sparked discussions about loss and addiction.

The podcast has struck a chord with listeners, prompting them to reflect on their own experiences of grief and substance abuse. Mosley believes that sharing stories of pain and loss can serve as a unifying force, enabling individuals to connect and find solace in shared experiences.
