A 62-year-old man from Coos County was taken into custody on Sunday evening following a disturbance at a residence in Bandon, as reported by the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement officials were called to a home on Mastel Lane in response to reports of gunfire at around 7:20 p.m. on June 16. Upon arrival, a deputy from the sheriff’s office and two officers from the Bandon Police Department discovered that the suspect, identified as Steven Houck, had allegedly forced the victim out of the trailer they shared at gunpoint. Houck reportedly restrained and threatened the victim when they attempted to contact emergency services. The victim was eventually allowed to return to the trailer, at which point Houck discharged a single round from his handgun in an unknown direction. A 9mm shell casing was later located near the trailer by the deputy. The altercation stemmed from an ongoing civil dispute between Houck and the victim over the property.

Houck was promptly arrested and taken to the Coos County Jail, where he now faces charges of menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, and interfering with the making of a report. According to jail records, he remains in custody as of June 17, 2024.
