A 38-year-old man was unable to enjoy the Father’s Day celebrations planned by his family after he was involved in a devastating accident on the National Highway in Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur.
The victim, identified as Roberto Viesta, was on his motorcycle when he was struck by a passenger bus travelling in the opposite direction. The collision caused severe injuries to Viesta, leaving his limbs almost shattered.
Footage from a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera captured the moment of impact, showing the bus veering into Viesta’s lane. The bus driver claimed that he swerved to avoid colliding with another motorcyclist who suddenly slowed down.
“If I hadn’t swerved to avoid the other rider, I would have hit him too. He suddenly slowed down even though we were both travelling at high speeds,” the bus driver explained.
Authorities, however, are questioning the driver’s explanation. They reviewed the CCTV footage and found no apparent reason for the bus to change lanes.
“Based on the CCTV recordings we have obtained, it is clear that the lane was clear for the bus to stay in its original position,” stated PLT. Joseph Fieldad, Chief of Sto Domingo City Police Station.
The family of the victim expressed their intention to pursue legal action against the bus driver for the injuries sustained by Viesta.
