A tragic series of events unfolded in Mississippi on Father’s Day, as two separate domestic-related shootings left one man dead and three others injured. The incidents occurred in Vicksburg and Adams County, sparking investigations by local law enforcement.

Domestic Dispute in Vicksburg

The first shooting took place in Vicksburg, where police responded to a disturbance in the 2500 block of Drummond Street early Sunday morning. Upon arrival, officers discovered that an unidentified male had shot two females during a domestic dispute.

The two injured females were swiftly transported to a medical facility for treatment of their wounds. Their current condition remains unknown. The male suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by law enforcement after a brief pursuit.

Tragic Incident in Adams County

Just over 70 miles south in Adams County, another disturbing incident unfolded. Police dispatch received a distress call from a woman crying for help shortly after midnight. Deputies were dispatched to Carmel Church Road, where a man named Randrell Jones had also reported the same incident.

Randrell informed authorities that his mother, Tawana Jones, and stepfather, Calvin Carter, were involved in a violent altercation. Allegedly, Carter had forcibly entered the home and assaulted Tawana. In a bid to protect his mother, Randrell followed the couple as they left the scene.

Tragically, a series of gunshots rang out, resulting in Carter and Tawana being rushed to Merit Health Natchez for urgent medical attention. Regrettably, Carter succumbed to his injuries, while Tawana was discharged from the hospital on Sunday after receiving treatment for multiple injuries sustained during the altercation.

Investigation Ongoing

Sheriff Travis Patten confirmed that Carter had arrived at Tawana’s residence on Carmel Road, where she was staying for the night. It is alleged that Carter trespassed onto the property before forcibly taking Tawana with him, leading to the fatal shooting that ensued.

Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding these tragic incidents. No arrests have been made at this time as authorities work tirelessly to piece together the events that transpired on Father’s Day in Mississippi.
