GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. — The community of Grosse Pointe Farms continues to mourn the tragic loss of 16-year-old Paige Stalker, who was shot and killed nearly ten years ago in a senseless act of violence that remains unsolved.
On December 22, 2014, Paige Stalker was sitting in a car with three friends on the Detroit-Grosse Pointe Park border when a gunman opened fire, taking her life and forever changing the lives of those who knew and loved her.
The motive behind the shooting remains a mystery, and despite years passing, no arrests have been made and no charges have been announced in connection to Paige’s murder.
Paige’s family, who have been tirelessly seeking justice for their daughter, now feel a sense of helplessness as her case remains cold and unresolved.
“I feel helpless, that’s why I reached out to you guys,” shared Avery Stalker, Paige’s sister, reflecting the frustration and pain the family has endured over the years.
For almost a decade, the Stalker family has been living with the heartbreaking reality of not knowing who took the life of their beloved daughter just days before Christmas.
Recalling the night of Paige’s tragic death, Avery described a scene of confusion and devastation as the family tried to make sense of the senseless violence that had claimed their loved one.
Earlier that fateful night, Paige had been picked up by friends and they had parked at the corner of Charlevoix and Philip, on the Detroit/Grosse Pointe Park border, to hang out and smoke marijuana.
It was there that another vehicle pulled up, and without warning, the occupants opened fire with an AK-47, unleashing a barrage of bullets on the unsuspecting teens.
A total of 30 shell casings were found at the scene, and the injured teens were rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, Paige succumbed to her injuries, while the others managed to survive the attack.
Retired Detroit Police Deputy Chief Steve Dolunt shed light on the incident, suggesting that it was a case of mistaken identity that led to the tragic shooting that claimed Paige’s life.
Despite the thorough investigation conducted by the homicide section of the Detroit Police Department, including the recovery of the weapon and identification of a suspect, no charges have been brought forth in connection to Paige’s murder.
Detectives submitted an investigative report to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, but to this day, the suspect remains uncharged and the case unresolved.
In a statement to the media, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office explained that the warrant request was denied due to insufficient evidence to support criminal charges, emphasizing the need for evidence that can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
As the years have passed without justice for Paige, her family and supporters continue to advocate for the case to be revisited and for the responsible party to be held accountable for their actions.
Steve Dolunt expressed the family’s desire for closure, stating, “Victims need closure and Paige’s dad just died and never had closure.”
Avery echoed the sentiment, expressing the hope that seeing the individual responsible for Paige’s murder brought to justice would bring some peace and solace to their shattered hearts.
As the community remembers and honours the life of Paige Stalker, the quest for justice and closure continues, with the hope that one day, those responsible for her untimely death will be held accountable.
