Man Killed, Another Injured in SUV-Motorcycle Collision in Cebu City

Tragedy struck in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City, when a white SUV collided with motorcycles parked at the roadside, resulting in the death of a 55-year-old farmer and injuries to a 26-year-old food delivery rider.

The farmer, who was preparing to transport his harvested spices, had parked his motorcycle on Governor Cuenco Avenue in Barangay Banilad around 4 a.m. on June 15, 2024, while waiting for someone.

According to the Cebu City Police Office – Traffic Enforcement Unit (CCPO-TEU) investigator, the delivery rider heard the sound of a speeding vehicle and turned to see the SUV heading towards them.

Witnesses described how the impact of the collision sent the farmer and his motorcycle flying several meters from the point of impact, causing fatal injuries.

The 32-year-old SUV driver, who also sustained injuries, was placed under hospital arrest as authorities investigate whether alcohol or fatigue played a role in the accident.

The SUV driver’s family has pledged to cover the medical expenses of the injured delivery rider and the deceased farmer.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injuries, and property damage will be brought against the SUV driver.

Infant Killed in Motorcycle Collision in Bohol

In a separate incident in Barangay Kalunasan, Calape town, Bohol, a five-month-old baby boy tragically lost his life after his parents were involved in a motorcycle accident.

The infant’s 21-year-old mother was driving the motorcycle, with the baby’s father carrying the child as a passenger, when they collided with another motorcycle while overtaking a vehicle.

The impact of the crash caused the mother to hit a tricycle following the other motorcycle, resulting in severe injuries to the parents and minor injuries to the occupants of the other vehicles.

The couple was en route from Inabanga town to Tagbilaran City for the baby’s medical check-up, but the child was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Authorities from the Calape Municipal Police Station are investigating the incident, but no charges have been filed as of now.

Police Master Sergeant Alexander Mijares of the Calape Municipal Police Station issued a warning to drivers to be cautious and considerate on the roads to prevent such tragic accidents.
