Three individuals have been apprehended by the police for their involvement in an incident where they allegedly attempted to run over two Noida policemen with their SUV. The arrests were made on Sunday, and the accused have been charged with attempted murder.

The SUV in question, identified as a Mahindra Thar, was seized by the police following the incident near Morna police outpost on June 8.

A spokesperson for the police stated, “A police sub-inspector and a head constable were stationed near the police post when the suspects in the SUV approached them, seeking directions to a particular location. Upon being informed that the officers were unaware of the location, the accused individuals verbally abused them and rammed their vehicle into the officers, causing injuries before fleeing the scene.”

Subsequent to the attack on the sub-inspector and head constable, a case was registered at Sector 49 police station on Friday, as per the spokesperson.

“The individuals apprehended have been identified as Nitesh Gupta (22), Tushar Kalra (20), and Naveen Awana (21). While Gupta and Kalra reside in Sector 41 of the city, Awana is a resident of Sector 108,” the spokesperson added.

An FIR has been lodged by the police under IPC sections 307 (attempted murder) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).

If found guilty under IPC section 307, the convicted individuals could face a sentence of life imprisonment or up to 10 years in prison, in addition to a fine.

The official further stated that legal proceedings in the case are ongoing.
