A 28-year-old man, identified as Naveen Naik, was brutally attacked and bludgeoned to death by a gang while he was transporting vegetables near Hoskote on the outskirts of Bengaluru in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Naik, a resident of Gangapura, was accompanied by his friend Chandrakeshwar in his Omni van on their way to the Hoskote market when the tragic incident occurred.
According to the police, the assailants intercepted Naik’s van with their red-coloured car near Mylapura gate on the Bengaluru-Tirupati Highway. Four men emerged from the vehicle and confronted Naik, leading to a violent altercation. Chandrakeshwar managed to escape during the chaos.
Chandrakeshwar recounted to the authorities that the confrontation stemmed from an argument Naik had with a car driver regarding overspeeding and reckless overtaking. The situation quickly escalated, resulting in the fatal attack on Naik.
During the altercation, one of the suspects retrieved a rod from their vehicle and repeatedly struck Naik’s face, ultimately causing his untimely demise. While the primary motive appears to be the argument that transpired, authorities are exploring other potential reasons for the attack.
The Hoskote police have initiated an investigation into the case, delving into whether the assailants had been tracking Naik’s movements prior to the incident. Additionally, law enforcement is scrutinising Naik’s background for any past conflicts or altercations that may have contributed to the tragic event.
