Tragic Accident in Thane Leaves Teen Dead and Several Injured

In a devastating incident in Mumbra, Thane, a 14-year-old boy lost his life while six others sustained injuries when a cement mixer truck crashed into a compound wall of a residential building and overturned on Saturday night. The Regional Disasters Management Cell (RDMC) confirmed the tragic event.

The deceased, identified as Nasir Shaikh, was just 14 years old. Among the injured was Ashique Inamdar.

Statement from RDMC Chief

According to Yasin Tadvi, the chief of RDMC, the fatal accident occurred in the Samrat Nagar area around 8 pm on Saturday. Shaikh and the other children were playing in the compound of the building, while other residents were out for a stroll. The cement mixer truck, travelling from the Mumbra bypass, was being driven by 19-year-old Riyaz Khan, who lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the wall of Prathamesh Society, causing it to split in half due to the impact.

Victims Rushed to Hospitals

The injured victims were swiftly taken to various hospitals, but unfortunately, Shaikh succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Tadvi stated, “We were informed about the accident around 8.30 pm and immediately dispatched a team with emergency and rescue vehicles to the scene.” The Mumbra police also arrived and arranged for three ambulances to transport the injured individuals.

An official from RDMC mentioned that a hydraulic machine was used to lift the overturned truck.

Legal Action Taken

Senior Inspector Anil Shinde confirmed, “A case has been filed against the driver, Riyaz Khan, and the owner of the truck, Bhimarao Patil, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 304(A) for causing death by negligence and 279 for rash driving, as well as the Motor Vehicles Act.” Khan resides in Mumbra, while Patil is a resident of Navi Mumbai.
