Accident – Death – Obituary News : The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau has officially identified the motorcyclist who tragically lost his life in a fatal crash on Interstate 580 in Livermore last Thursday morning. The deceased has been named as Miguel Bernardino, a 27-year-old resident of Merced, according to the coroner’s bureau. It is worth noting that the initial incident report from the California Highway Patrol had stated the victim’s age as 30.

The incident took place shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Thursday (June 13) when Bernardino was riding his 2019 Suzuki GSX-5 at a high speed in the westbound direction on I-580, just west of the North Livermore Avenue exit. Reports from the CHP indicate that Bernardino was lane-splitting between the Nos. 2 and 3 lanes when he lost control of his motorcycle for reasons that are currently unknown. As a result, he was thrown from his bike onto the freeway, directly in the path of a truck tractor-trailer combination vehicle, which tragically struck the fallen rider. The driver of the truck stopped on the Isabel Avenue off-ramp and cooperated with the responding officers, as confirmed by the CHP.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, with the CHP leading the ongoing probe. In the aftermath of the incident, the Nos. 1 through 5 lanes were closed for approximately 2-1/2 hours during the morning rush hour to facilitate the investigation and await the arrival of the coroner’s van, as per information provided by the CHP.
