Accident – Death – Obituary News : After a tragic incident at a splash pad outside of Detroit, the community is left in shock as police investigate a mass shooting that injured nine people. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is urging caution when it comes to donating to fundraisers, as fraudulent GoFundMe pages have surfaced claiming to raise money for the victims.
The shooting took place at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills, with the suspected shooter fleeing the scene and later taking his own life. Mayor Bryan K. Barnett expressed the city’s devastation, stating, “This is a horrible scene that has been repeated too many times across our country, unfortunately touching our city today.”
Among the victims, an eight-year-old boy and a 39-year-old woman are in critical condition, while others, including a 4-year-old boy and a 78-year-old man, are stable. Eric and Micayla Coughlin, a couple from Rochester, were shot multiple times while protecting their young daughters, who miraculously escaped unharmed.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Michael William Nash, had no prior criminal record and was believed to have mental health challenges. Police described the shooting as “very random” and “bizarre,” with detectives currently investigating possible motives.
In response to the tragedy, Rochester Hills is offering mental health resources to the victims and their families. A Family Assistance Center has been set up to provide counseling and support, with additional helplines available for those in need.
