Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 35-year-old woman in Thiruvottriyur, identified as Madhumathi, had a terrifying encounter with a charging buffalo that left her injured. The incident took place on a narrow lane of Grama Theru on a Sunday afternoon. As Madhumathi was walking, a buffalo suddenly rushed towards her from the opposite direction, causing her dress to get entangled in the animal’s horns. In a harrowing turn of events, she was dragged along by the buffalo, with CCTV footage capturing the moment she was physically lifted and placed on top of the animal. Residents in the area, including a few boys, were seen running in panic as they witnessed the shocking scene.

Upon hearing Madhumathi’s cries for help, neighbours rushed to her aid and managed to rescue her from the buffalo. She was immediately taken to a private hospital for treatment, where it was revealed that she had sustained bruises all over her body. Thankfully, she is now out of danger and recovering from the ordeal. Another individual also suffered a minor injury during the chaotic incident.

The situation escalated further as the public attempted to chase down the buffalo, causing the animal to go berserk and damage vehicles parked on the roadside. However, with collective efforts, the buffalo was eventually brought under control. The Greater Chennai Corporation Staff arrived at the scene to capture the animal and relocate it to the Corporation’s shelter in Pulianthope, as confirmed by City Health Officer M. Jagadeesan.

In light of the recent events, discussions have been sparked regarding the licensing of cows in the city and the establishment of additional shelters in South Chennai, as announced by Mayor R. Priya during the Corporation Budget presentation earlier this year. However, due to the disruptions caused by the Lok Sabha Elections, progress on these projects has been delayed.

As the community reflects on the incident involving Madhumathi and the charging buffalo, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety measures when interacting with animals, especially in urban areas. The incident has left a lasting impact on all those involved, highlighting the need for increased awareness and precautionary measures in similar situations..
