Accident – Death – Obituary News : The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to residents after discovering a fake GoFundMe account claiming to be a victim of the recent Rochester Hills splash pad shooting. The account fraudulently collected over $15,000 under the guise of assisting Kyle J. Thompson, his pregnant wife, and their children. However, Sheriff Michael Bouchard confirmed that Thompson and his family were not involved in the incident, labeling the account as a “complete fraud.”

During a news conference held on Monday, Sheriff Bouchard announced that the fake GoFundMe account had been shut down, and the funds were returned to the donors. In response to this deceptive act, the sheriff’s office has emphasized the importance of verifying the authenticity of donation platforms. They have shared legitimate accounts on social media for those who wish to contribute to the victims of the tragic incident.

The shooting at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad left nine individuals injured, including two children. A harrowing update revealed that an 8-year-old boy and a 39-year-old woman from the same family were in critical condition following the attack, while two other victims have been discharged from the hospital.

Authorities disclosed that the shooter arrived at the splash pad in a vehicle and unleashed gunfire around 5 p.m. local time. The perpetrator, later identified as 42-year-old Michael William Nash of Shelby Township, took his own life after a standoff at a nearby residence.

Despite ongoing investigations, law enforcement has not yet determined a motive for the shooting. Evidence seized from Nash’s property includes electronic devices such as a phone, tablet, MacBook Pro, and PC towers. Surprisingly, the shooter had no prior criminal record.

Neighbours of the assailant described him as reclusive, rarely interacting with the community. A resident living next to Nash’s mother mentioned that their interactions were superficial, with the gunman predominantly staying indoors and maintaining a low profile.
