According to reports by Local12 and People, Karen Coffman’s husband had been battling a brain tumour and unfortunately passed away shortly after her lottery win. The devastating loss of her husband cast a shadow over what should have been a joyous occasion for Coffman.
Surprise Win
Coffman’s stroke of luck came in March 2024 when she purchased the winning lottery ticket. On June 13, she was officially awarded the $1 million prize, leaving her in disbelief. “I thought, ‘This can’t be right!’” she exclaimed when she realized her good fortune.
Previous Win
This was not the first time Karen Coffman had luck on her side. Around 14 years ago, she had won a $65,000 lottery prize, proving that lightning can indeed strike twice for some individuals.
Plans for the Future
Having recently retired from her job as a chef at a nursing home, Coffman shared her plans for the lottery money. During the cheque presentation, Secretary of Revenue, Pat Browne, highlighted the positive impact of Coffman’s win. He mentioned, “Her win is also a reminder that the Pennsylvanian Lottery funds a number of programs for older Pennsylvanians that support them and help them lead fulfilling lives,” emphasizing the broader benefits of lottery funding.
Despite the challenges that followed her lottery win, Karen Coffman remains optimistic about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead with her newfound wealth.
