In a heart-wrenching turn of events, three individuals lost their lives in two separate road accidents near the picturesque Courtallam Waterfalls in Tenkasi. The incidents occurred late on Saturday evening as the victims were returning home after enjoying a day at the popular tourist spot.
Indian Army Personnel Among the Deceased
The first accident claimed the lives of K Baskaran, a 33-year-old Indian Army personnel hailing from Pillaiyarkulam in Virudhunagar district, and R Krishnaraja, a bank manager. The duo, accompanied by their relative Marimuthu, had embarked on a trip to Courtallam Falls in a car. Tragically, their journey took a fatal turn when their vehicle lost control and collided with a tree near Puliyangudi.
While Baskaran and Krishnaraja succumbed to their injuries at the accident site, Marimuthu was rushed to the Government District Headquarters Hospital in Tenkasi in critical condition. The bodies of the deceased were sent to the government hospital in Puliyangudi for postmortem examination, as per official sources.
Additional Fatality and Multiple Injuries in Second Accident
In a separate incident, a 60-year-old woman identified as V Hemalatha from Avadi, Chennai, met with a tragic end when the car she was travelling in collided with a truck near Punnaiyapuram. Hemalatha, along with eight other occupants of the vehicle, was en route to Chennai after a visit to Courtallam Falls.
The impact of the collision left all passengers severely injured, prompting the Chokkampatti police to rush them to GHQH for medical attention. Despite efforts to save her, Hemalatha tragically passed away without responding to treatment. The authorities have initiated legal proceedings and apprehended the truck driver, Gurusamy, in connection with the incident.
These back-to-back tragedies serve as a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of road travel and the importance of adhering to safety regulations. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the departed during this difficult time.
