BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A man from Simpson County is facing a series of charges following a collision that occurred early Monday morning in Bowling Green.
At approximately 2:29 a.m., the Bowling Green Police Department received a call regarding a vehicle accident on Louisville Road at Interstate Drive.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers engaged with the driver, who was later identified as 32-year-old Juan Garcia from Franklin, Kentucky.
During the conversation with the driver using a language line interpreter, Garcia admitted to consuming several alcoholic beverages prior to the crash.
Furthermore, Garcia claimed that he was behind the wheel at the time of the incident, explaining that another vehicle had encroached into his lane, forcing him to swerve and collide with a light pole and control box.
Emergency medical services extricated a passenger from the vehicle and provided treatment. The passenger sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center.
Authorities confirmed that Garcia was not the registered owner of the significantly damaged vehicle.
Garcia now faces charges including operating a motor vehicle under the influence (first offense with aggravating circumstances), first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree assault, no operator’s – moped license, failure of a non-owner to maintain required insurance (first offense), and failure to wear seat belts.
Following the incident, Garcia was taken into custody and transported to the Warren County Detention Center.
