LAKELAND, Fla. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has successfully apprehended a wanted man who had been evading arrest by hiding in a ceiling on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities received reports of a disturbance in the vicinity of US 98 North and Duff Road in Lakeland, but upon arrival, the suspect responsible for the disturbance, identified as 38-year-old Joshua Garrett, had already fled the scene.

Following further investigation, it was revealed that Garrett was wanted for violation of probation, including charges of burglary, providing false information to a pawnbroker, and trafficking in stolen property.

Sheriff’s deputies tracked down Garrett to a nearby business where he was employed. Upon confirming his presence inside the building, deputies conducted a thorough search and suspected that Garrett was concealing himself in the ceiling.
Evidence of his presence in the ceiling became apparent as deputies noticed disturbed ceiling tiles and heard Garrett’s phone ringing. Additionally, a hand was spotted protruding from under the insulation.
Joshua Garrett was subsequently taken into custody and booked at the Polk County Jail on his existing warrant. He now faces additional charges of resisting arrest and felony criminal mischief, as he caused approximately £1,000 worth of damage to his employer’s ceiling during his attempt to evade capture.
