Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, have confirmed that human remains discovered in the former residence of a man recently convicted of his wife’s murder have been identified as those of his missing former girlfriend. Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees announced last week that the remains belonged to Jilly Todaro, and forensic experts were able to make the identification through body imaging techniques.

Details of the Discovery

The remains were found buried in the basement of the former home of 48-year-old Brian Giles, just one day after he was found guilty in the death of his wife, Nancy Giles. Nancy Giles had gone missing in October 2018, and her remains were later discovered in May 2019 in a shallow grave near a trail on the Inclined Plane hillside in downtown Johnstown. Todaro, who was Giles’ girlfriend following the disappearance of his wife, also lived in the same home and vanished in December 2020.

Expected Charges

District Attorney Greg Neugebauer has indicated that charges related to Todaro’s death are forthcoming. The exact cause of death has not been disclosed, but Lees described it as a result of “homicidal violence.” Neugebauer noted that specific information led authorities to search the residence where Todaro’s remains were ultimately found, making the prosecution’s case significantly stronger.

Legal Proceedings and Reactions

In response to the discovery, Brian Giles’ defense attorney, Timothy Burns, refrained from commenting until the remains were positively identified. During the trial for Nancy Giles’ murder, Burns had highlighted his client’s mental health struggles and expressed disappointment with the verdict. Brian Giles himself maintained his innocence as he was escorted from the courtroom.

Relatives of Jilly Todaro, who was 43 years old at the time of her disappearance, expressed gratitude for the closure that the discovery of her remains has brought. They can now begin the process of healing and grieving, according to Coroner Lees. Assistant District Attorney Jessica Aurandt shared her wish that Todaro could have witnessed the outpouring of support and efforts made to ensure she was found and treated with dignity.

Overall, the identification of Jilly Todaro’s remains has brought some closure to the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings surrounding the tragic events in Johnstown.
