Accident – Death – Obituary News :

JOHNSTOWN — Authorities have confirmed that the human remains discovered in the former residence of a man recently convicted for the murder of his wife belong to his missing former girlfriend, Jilly Todaro.

Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees revealed that forensic experts used body imaging techniques to positively identify Todaro’s remains. While the exact cause of her death was not disclosed, Lees described it as a result of “homicidal violence.”

The grim discovery was made in the basement of the former Johnstown home of 48-year-old Brian Giles, just a day after his conviction in connection with the death of Nancy Giles, his wife who disappeared in October 2018. Nancy’s remains were found in May 2019 in a shallow grave near a trail on the Inclined Plane hillside in downtown Johnstown.

Todaro, who was in a relationship with Giles following the disappearance of his wife, also resided in the same home and vanished in December 2020. District Attorney Greg Neugebauer indicated that charges related to her death are imminent.

During the trial for Nancy Giles’ murder, Brian Giles’ defense attorney, Timothy Burns, refrained from commenting on the discovery of Todaro’s remains prior to their identification. Burns had previously cited his client’s mental health struggles and expressed disappointment at the verdict, stating that the defense would explore all options. Giles maintained his innocence as he was escorted from the courtroom.

Neugebauer disclosed that the search of Giles’ residence following the verdict was prompted by new information pinpointing the location of the body. The prosecutor stated that the recovery of Todaro’s remains bolstered the prosecution’s case significantly.

Family members of Todaro, who was 43 at the time of her disappearance, expressed gratitude for her recovery, enabling them to commence the healing process. Assistant District Attorney Jessica Aurandt lamented that Todaro could not witness the outpouring of support and efforts made to ensure her dignity in death.
