Bergen County authorities have announced the arrest of a 29-year-old man from Piscataway, Mr. Harshkumar H. Patel, on charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

The incident took place on Friday, June 14, 2024, in Englewood Cliffs. The local police department responded to a stabbing on Sylvan Avenue at around 5:34 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a 30-year-old victim who was promptly taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment. Fortunately, the victim was later released from the hospital.

Investigations conducted by the Major Crimes Unit and Englewood Cliffs Police Department revealed that the suspect approached the victim while they were in a vehicle leaving a parking lot.

According to Prosecutor Mark Musella, the assailant proceeded to stab the victim multiple times through the open window before fleeing the scene. The attack appeared to be unprovoked, as the victim and suspect were not acquainted.

The following day, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, authorities identified Harshkumar H. Patel as the perpetrator. He was apprehended outside his residence in Piscataway by detectives, with support from the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Task Force and the Piscataway Police Department.

Patel now faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of a firearm.
