Police and family in the Hudson Valley were on high alert over the weekend as they frantically searched for a missing handicapped autistic man from the Capital Region. The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that they were conducting a search for the missing individual.
Details of the Search
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, at around 1:00 a.m., the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office received a report about a missing handicapped autistic man. The 30-year-old man, who hails from Clifton Park, was staying at an Airbnb on Philwold Road in the Town of Forestburgh.
According to reports, the man was last seen on Friday around 5 p.m. near the Airbnb. It was reported that he had “walked away” from the property, prompting concern from his family and authorities.
Successful Recovery
The Sheriff’s Patrol sprang into action, conducting a thorough search of the area. Additionally, they activated three members from their drone unit to assist in the search efforts.
Fortunately, the search efforts paid off, as on Saturday around 4:20 a.m., the missing man was found approximately 1.5 miles from the Airbnb. He was located near the intersection of Cold Spring Road and Oakland Valley Road.
Authorities were able to reunite the man with his family, and despite his ordeal, he was reported to be in good health. However, deputies noted that he was a little hungry after his ordeal.
Gratitude for Support
Sullivan County Sheriff Mike Schiff expressed his gratitude for the swift recovery of the missing man. He credited the drone unit for their assistance in locating the individual quickly. Sheriff Schiff also thanked lawmakers for their continued support of the drone program and other law enforcement initiatives that contribute to public safety.
With this successful outcome, the community in the Hudson Valley can breathe a sigh of relief as the missing man has been safely returned to his loved ones.
