Over the weekend, Milwaukee was shaken by the tragic deaths of two teenagers in a shooting incident and a toddler who was struck and killed by a car. The victims have been identified as Diego Herrera-Mejia, 16, and Isaac Rodriguez, 15, who were killed in a shooting on the 800 block of West Manitoba Street. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, while Herrera-Meja succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. Additionally, a 14-year-old was injured but survived the incident.
The four-year-old toddler who was fatally struck by a car at McGovern Park has been identified as Marquell Roby-Holmes. Initially reported as a 2-year-old, Roby-Holmes’ age was corrected by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred near the 5400 block of North 51st Boulevard on Milwaukee’s north side.
High Vehicle Fatality Rate in Milwaukee County
According to data from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Milwaukee County has seen 35 vehicle-related fatalities this year, the highest in the state. This concerning statistic highlights the need for increased road safety measures and awareness to prevent further tragedies.
