Virginia State Police investigating fatal car accident in Franklin County
Fatal crash in Franklin County being investigated by Virginia State Police.
Accident – Death – Obituary News :
Virginia State Police are currently investigating a tragic two-vehicle collision that resulted in a fatality. The incident took place on Saturday, June 15th, at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Route 122, just two tenths of a mile north of Route 950, in Franklin County.
Authorities have reported that a 2014 Chrysler 200 was travelling north on Route 122 when, for reasons yet to be determined, the vehicle crossed the centre-line and collided head-on with a 2016 Toyota Tundra.
The driver of the Chrysler has been identified as 26-year-old Austin Lee Lawhorn, a resident of Moneta, Virginia. Despite wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, Lawhorn tragically lost his life at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota, a 38-year-old woman, along with her two 12-year-old passengers, were also wearing their seatbelts. They sustained injuries in the collision and were promptly transported to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, their injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.
At present, the circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation, as Virginia State Police work diligently to determine the cause of this tragic incident.
