FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — Virginia State Police (VSP) have reported a devastating incident in Franklin County that resulted in the loss of a young life and left three others injured.
VSP officials are currently investigating a two-vehicle collision that occurred on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. on Route 122, just a short distance north of Route 950 in Franklin County.
The tragic accident involved a 2014 Chrysler 200 travelling north on Route 122, which inexplicably crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a 2016 Toyota Tundra, as reported by VSP.
Tragically, the driver of the Chrysler, identified as 26-year-old Austin Lee Lawhorn from Moneta, lost his life in the collision. Lawhorn was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, but unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota, a 38-year-old female, along with two 12-year-old passengers, also wearing their seatbelts, sustained injuries in the collision. They were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of their non-life-threatening injuries, according to VSP officials.
The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation by VSP as they work to determine the cause of this tragic incident.
