A 23-year-old man from Nashville has been charged with criminal homicide after confessing to fatally shooting a 17-year-old girl at Cumberland View Homes in North Nashville. Anthony L. Brooks turned himself in and admitted to shooting Ebonique Farris following an argument in the apartment complex’s courtyard.
According to police reports, a family member of Brooks handed over the gun used in the shooting to the authorities. Farris was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being shot, but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
The incident marks the 14th teenager to lose their life to violence in Nashville this year, with Farris becoming the sixth victim in just three weeks. Shockingly, a total of 18 teenage homicide victims were identified in 2023 alone, highlighting the concerning trend of youth violence in the city. Farris’ death also comes as the second teenager to be killed in the span of a week, further underscoring the urgent need for community intervention and support.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, with Brooks currently facing charges of criminal homicide as the legal process unfolds.
