INDIANAPOLIS — On January 23, officers from the IMPD Northwest District responded to a call at an area hospital regarding an adult male who had suffered injuries related to battery. Tragically, on March 31, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical personnel. The Marion County Coroner’s Office has now officially classified this case as a homicide.

The incident occurred in January at the 4900 block of Media Drive on the northwest side of Indianapolis. At the time, 53-year-old William Spann Jr. was arrested as the alleged suspect in the case. With the assistance of the IMPD SWAT team, Spann Jr. was apprehended without any further incidents, according to authorities.

Initially, Spann Jr. was charged with domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, which is classified as a Level 4 felony in Indiana. However, the IMPD has since handed over the case to homicide detectives, who are now collaborating with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office to determine the appropriate final charge in light of the recent developments.

As of the time of this article’s publication, Spann Jr. remains in police custody.
