A tragic incident occurred in north Phoenix where a two-year-old girl was pronounced dead after being discovered unconscious in a pool on Saturday.

The young child was identified as a toddler who was found not breathing at a residence near the intersection of 35th Avenue and Deer Valley Road.

Reports indicate that the family suspects she may have been in the water for approximately 10 minutes before being found.

Emergency crews swiftly responded to the call reporting the unconscious child around 4:30 p.m., as confirmed by Phoenix Fire captain Todd Keller.

Keller emphasized the importance of constant supervision around any body of water, stating, “A child can drown in as little as two inches of water.” He highlighted the necessity of vigilance when children are near water to prevent such tragedies.

In light of the devastating incident, a Community Assistance Program has been mobilized to support the grieving family during this difficult time.

Authorities from the Phoenix Police Department have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Regrettably, this was the second drowning incident to occur in Phoenix on the same day.

Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveal that drowning is the leading cause of death among children aged 1 to 14.
