Accident – Death – Obituary News :
A missing family of four, including children aged 5 and 6, are feared to be deceased after human remains were discovered on the property of a man now charged with murder.
Rory Atwood, aged 25, is facing a first-degree murder charge. The human remains have not yet been identified, but Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco stated at a press conference held on Saturday that deputies suspect they belong to the missing family, identified as Rain Mancini, aged 26, and Phillip Zilliot II, aged 25, along with their children 6-year-old Karma Zilliot and 5-year-old Phillip Zilliot III.
“Those two poor little children,” Nocco expressed. “We believe that they may be on the property deceased, but we do not know that definitively.”
The investigation is still unfolding, but deputies believe the family was present at Atwood’s residence on Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Atwood’s daughter and a friend of Mancini’s were also present, Nocco revealed. An argument reportedly erupted while the adults were consuming alcohol. Deputies are in the process of piecing together the sequence of events, but Atwood allegedly contacted a friend around 2 a.m.
“He stated he shot somebody and was in a state of panic,” Nocco disclosed.
However, no one reached out to the sheriff’s office for another 12 hours, according to Nocco. It was then third- or fourth-hand information about the incident, he added. Atwood permitted deputies to search his approximately 10-acre rural property on Nottingham Trail in the town of Hudson in western Pasco County on Thursday evening, but no suspicious findings were made.
Deputies managed to establish contact with Mancini’s mother, who expressed ignorance about her daughter’s whereabouts, last connecting with her on Wednesday and not receiving any communication since. Consequently, the family was reported as missing, according to deputies. Mancini and her family had previously resided on the Atwood property, and deputies received information indicating their presence there on Wednesday night, Nocco indicated.
Given this information, deputies conducted another search of Atwood’s property on Friday night, this time with the assistance of cadaver dogs and aerial units. Subsequently, human remains were discovered. Refraining from divulging further details about the remains due to an ongoing investigation, Nocco mentioned that a medical examiner would be responsible for identification. Based on Atwood’s statements, detectives were able to effectuate the arrest for first-degree murder of an unidentified individual.
As the family’s demise has not been confirmed, the missing persons investigation remains active, Nocco affirmed. Individuals possessing pertinent information are urged to contact the Pasco Sheriff’s Non-Emergency Line at 727-847-8102, option 7, or submit tips online at PascoSheriff.com/tips.
