TIPTON COUNTY, Ind. — Tragedy struck on Saturday morning as an Elwood man lost his life in a harrowing car crash that ended in a creek north of State Road 38.
The incident unfolded when deputies and members of the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and discovered a car submerged in the creek. Despite their best efforts to rescue the driver, identified as 40-year-old Philip “Kyle” Degler, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial reports suggest that Degler was behind the wheel of a 2016 Kia Soul travelling westbound on State Road 28 when the vehicle veered off the road while navigating a curve. The Kia then ploughed through a small corn field before coming to a halt in the creek.
The authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation, with the Tipton County Coroner’s Office and Indiana State Police collaborating to ascertain the precise cause of the crash.
