Accident – Death – Obituary News : The suspect in the tragic shooting incident at a Michigan park on Saturday, where at least nine people, including two children, were shot, has been identified by authorities. The shooting took place at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills, located approximately 30 minutes north of Detroit.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office has named the alleged shooter as Michael William Nash, a 42-year-old white man who resided with his mother. Nash was found deceased shortly after the shooting, having discharged 28 rounds indiscriminately at families and children in the park. It has been reported that Nash had no prior criminal record but was believed to be struggling with mental health issues.
Sheriff Michael Bouchard revealed that Nash was discovered dead in a Shelby Township home, where he had barricaded himself for several hours following the attack. The sheriff stated that Nash appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Among the victims of the shooting were an 8-year-old boy and a 4-year-old boy, both of whom sustained injuries. The 8-year-old is in critical condition with a head wound, while the 4-year-old is stable with a thigh injury. Additionally, a 39-year-old woman is in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and leg. These three individuals are reportedly from the same family.
Another victim, a 78-year-old man, was also shot in the abdomen but is in stable condition. The shooting occurred around 5:15 pm local time on Saturday, with Nash arriving at the park and opening fire randomly on the unsuspecting crowd. Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the attack, describing it as “very random” and “bizarre.” Sheriff Bouchard emphasized that Nash had no connection to the victims.
At the scene, law enforcement recovered a 9mm Glock handgun with three magazines. Another weapon, suspected to be a semi-automatic rifle, was found at the residence where Nash’s body was located. Sheriff Bouchard suggested that this second firearm may have indicated Nash’s intention for a further violent act.
The aftermath of the shooting was chaotic, with multiple individuals being transported on stretchers, and items like ice cream and flip flops were reportedly stained with blood. Witnesses described the scene as harrowing, with people fleeing the area upon hearing reports of an active shooter. Sheriff Bouchard expressed his dismay at having to address yet another tragic shooting incident in the county.
This incident comes three years after the devastating school shooting at Oxford High School, just 20 miles away, where four students lost their lives. The perpetrator in that case, Ethan Crumbley, was sentenced to life in prison without parole. As of Sunday morning, authorities have not provided any further updates on the Michigan park shooting.
