Chicago: At least nine people were injured in a shooting at a water park in Rochester Hills in the northern suburbs of Detroit, the US state of Michigan, the police said.

The incident took place around 5 p.m. on Saturday when an unidentified gunman emerged from a vehicle and fired 28 shots from a handgun, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard during a press briefing.

Bouchard revealed that there were “nine, maybe 10, victims with varying degrees of injuries,” with the youngest victim identified as an eight-year-old child. The victims belonged to different age groups.

The suspect was apprehended in a residence half a mile away from the water park, as confirmed by Bouchard.

Law enforcement officers recovered a 9-mm handgun and three magazines from the scene of the incident.

An emergency alert was issued on Saturday evening to residents of Rochester Hills, cautioning them about an “active shooter” situation and advising them to steer clear of the area and seek shelter.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the violent incident.

The local community has been left in shock and authorities are providing support to the victims and their families during this difficult time.
