LOS ANGELES (CNS) – In a tragic incident near Dockweiler State Beach, a 2-year-old girl named Merida Castillo was struck and killed by an RV. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity of the victim.
The fatal accident occurred at 5:47 p.m. on Saturday in the 12200 block of Vista del Mar, as reported by Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im to City News Service.
According to Officer Im, Castillo was hit by a vehicle backing out of a private property. While it was initially unclear if the driver was related to the girl, LAPD’s Media Relations Division later revealed that both Castillo and the RV driver were residents of Lancaster and related. Further details about their relationship were not immediately available.
KTLA5 also reported that the driver of the RV was the girl’s mother, adding a heartbreaking layer to the tragedy.
An investigation into the incident is currently underway, as authorities seek to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
