Authorities have revealed the heartbreaking details of a fatal accident that occurred near Dockweiler State Beach, where a 2-year-old girl, identified as Merida Castillo, lost her life after being struck by an RV.

The tragic incident took place at 5:47 p.m. on Saturday in the 12200 block of Vista del Mar, as reported by Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department. The vehicle involved was backing out of a private property when it struck young Castillo.

While initial reports did not confirm the relationship between the driver of the RV and the victim, subsequent findings from the LAPD’s Media Relations Division have indicated that both Castillo and the motorist were residents of Lancaster and related. It has been reported by KTLA5 that the driver of the RV was, in fact, the mother of the young girl.

An investigation into the tragic incident is currently underway, with authorities working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the accident.
