Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A suspect met a fatal end in a chaotic and disturbing incident that unfolded in Maine early on Saturday morning, as confirmed by local authorities.

According to reports, multiple residences were engulfed in flames as the surrounding area was placed on lockdown while law enforcement officers pursued 43-year-old Leein Hinkley.

“It has been a harrowing and tragic morning here in Auburn. Incidents of this nature are particularly alarming for our community,” stated Deputy Chief Tim Cougle of the Auburn Police Department.

Residents in the vicinity echoed similar sentiments.

“The situation was undoubtedly distressing,” remarked Nathan Goyette, a resident of Auburn.

Law enforcement officials disclosed that a woman placed an emergency call from Russell at approximately 1 a.m., reporting a confrontation between her partner and an individual later identified as Hinkley, who was attempting to force entry into the premises. The woman’s partner remains unaccounted for.

During the distress call, gunshots were overheard, prompting the woman to flee the scene. Subsequently, responding officers located her in close proximity to the residence.

Simultaneously, a property in the vicinity became engulfed in flames. Investigators revealed that Hinkley opened fire on the officers, leading to a second residence catching fire.

Hinkley then fled the scene, initially seeking refuge in a garage before climbing onto a nearby rooftop.

“While on the rooftop, he brandished a firearm,” Cougle explained.

Several hours later, at around 5:30 a.m., the Maine State Police Swat Team ascended to the rooftop.

“Shortly after, Hinkley was shot and killed by members of the Maine State Police Tactical Team. Troopers Scott Duff and Patrick Hall were involved in the officer-involved shooting,” stated Col. William Ross of the Maine State Police.

The troopers have been placed on administrative leave. While both sustained injuries, the severity of their conditions remains undisclosed.

Throughout the tumultuous events, nearby residents were instructed to shelter in place for several hours.

“I’m appalled by the occurrence of such events in our community,” expressed Dylan Fry, who was visiting a friend in Auburn.

Local resident Danielle Philbrook described the situation as “utterly bewildering.”

“We walk our dog down that street every single day,” Philbrook added.

State police revealed that Hinkley had been released on bail just three days prior. He had been in custody due to a probation violation stemming from a 2011 conviction for domestic violence-related offences, including elevated aggravated assault, alongside a recent arrest for domestic violence.

“Initially held without bail for a probation violation, the court subsequently granted bail of $1500, despite objections from the district attorney’s office. Hinkley was to remain under house arrest at a residence in Lewiston,” Ross elaborated.

For some residents, the incident evoked memories of recent tragedies.

“The situation is incredibly frightening, particularly in light of recent events. Lewiston Strong,” Fry expressed.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the 911 caller’s partner is still being sought, reassuring the public that there is no longer a threat to public safety.
