TROY, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) – A community in Troy, Michigan, is coming together in solidarity to offer prayers and support for the nine individuals who were wounded in a tragic shooting incident at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad on Saturday evening. The incident, which took place at around 5 p.m., left nine people injured, including two children, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
The suspect, a 42-year-old man from Shelby Township, reportedly opened fire at the splash pad before later taking his own life following a standoff with law enforcement at a residence in Shelby Township.
Oakland County Executive David Coulter expressed his condolences, stating, “The Oakland County community stands with the injured and their families, and unfortunately, just as we had to do in Oxford, we will be with the victims, their families, and the community for as long as it takes. I’m grateful for the quick response from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department and first responders and for the coordination between our Emergency Operations Center and other responding agencies.”
A prayer vigil is scheduled to take place at Woodside Bible Church in Troy on Sunday at 5 p.m. CBS News Detroit will be streaming the event live from Woodside’s Troy campus located at 6600 Rochester Rd.
