Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a tragic turn of events, human remains discovered in the former home of a man recently convicted in the slaying of his wife have been identified as those of his missing former girlfriend. The Cambria County Coroner, Jeff Lees, confirmed last week that the remains belong to Jilly Todaro, who had been missing since December 2020. Through body imaging conducted by a forensic odontologist and anthropologist, Todaro’s identity was established, with the cause of death determined to be “homicidal violence.”

Discovery of Remains

The remains were unearthed from the basement of the former Johnstown residence of 48-year-old Brian Giles, just a day after his conviction in the death of his wife, Nancy Giles. Nancy had disappeared in October 2018, and her remains were later found in May 2019 in a shallow grave near a trail on the Inclined Plane hillside in downtown Johnstown. Todaro, who was Giles’ girlfriend following Nancy’s disappearance, also resided in the same home and went missing in December 2020.

Potential Charges

District Attorney Greg Neugebauer stated that charges related to Todaro’s death are expected to be filed in the near future. Giles’ defense attorney, Timothy Burns, refrained from commenting on the discovery of the remains prior to their identification. During the trial for Nancy Giles’ death, Burns had highlighted his client’s reported mental health struggles and expressed disappointment in the verdict, indicating that the defense would explore further legal options. Brian Giles, maintaining his innocence, was escorted from the courtroom following the trial.

Prosecution’s Case Strengthened

Neugebauer elaborated on the search of the residence, revealing that specific information led authorities to the exact location of Todaro’s remains. The successful recovery of the body bolstered the prosecution’s case significantly, with Todaro having been deceased for an extended period. Lees mentioned that Todaro’s relatives expressed gratitude for closure and the opportunity to commence the healing and grieving process.

A Tribute to Jilly Todaro

Assistant District Attorney Jessica Aurandt paid tribute to Todaro, lamenting that she could not witness the outpouring of support and efforts made to locate her. Aurandt expressed a wish for Todaro to have seen the care and dedication of those who rallied together to ensure she was treated with the dignity she deserved.

Overall, the identification of Jilly Todaro’s remains has brought a sense of closure to her loved ones, while also shedding light on the tragic events that unfolded in the wake of Nancy Giles’ disappearance.
