Accident – Death – Obituary News :

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Authorities have confirmed that the human remains discovered in the former residence of a man recently found guilty of killing his wife have been identified as those of his former girlfriend, who had been reported missing.

Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees announced last week that the remains belonged to Jilly Todaro, and they were identified through body imaging by a forensic odontologist and anthropologist. Lees refrained from disclosing the exact cause of death but stated that it was the result of “homicidal violence.”

The remains were found buried in the basement of the ex-Johnstown home of 48-year-old Brian Giles, a day after he was convicted in the murder case of Nancy Giles, his wife who went missing in October 2018. Nancy Giles’ remains were previously discovered in May 2019 in a shallow grave near a trail on the Inclined Plane hillside in downtown Johnstown.

Jilly Todaro, who was Giles’ girlfriend following his wife’s disappearance, also resided in the same residence and vanished in December 2020. District Attorney Greg Neugebauer informed the media that he anticipates charges to be filed imminently in connection to her death.

Brian Giles’ defense lawyer, Timothy Burns, declined to comment on the discovery of the remains prior to their identification. During the trial for Nancy Giles’ murder, Burns had referenced his client’s reported mental health challenges and expressed disappointment with the convictions, suggesting that the defense would explore alternative options. Brian Giles maintained his innocence as he was escorted out of the courtroom.

Neugebauer revealed that the search of the property the day after the verdict was based on specific information that led authorities to the location of the body for the first time.

“When we arrived, we expected to find Jilly,” Neugebauer stated, adding that she had been deceased “for a considerable period,” and the discovery of the remains in the manner they were found significantly bolstered the prosecution’s case.

Relatives of Todaro, who was 43 at the time of her disappearance, expressed their gratitude for her discovery, allowing them to initiate the healing and grieving process, according to Lees.

Assistant District Attorney Jessica Aurandt wished that Todaro “could have witnessed, during her lifetime, the immense support from the community, the sacrifices made to ensure her discovery, and the dignity with which she was treated.

“I wish she could have seen the care and concern of so many people,” Aurandt added.
