Human Remains Identified as Missing Former Girlfriend of Convicted Man

Authorities in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, have confirmed that the human remains discovered in the former residence of Brian Giles, a man recently convicted of his wife’s murder, have been identified as those of his missing former girlfriend, Jilly Todaro.

The Cambria County Coroner, Jeff Lees, revealed last week that the remains of Jilly Todaro were positively identified through body imaging conducted by a forensic odontologist and anthropologist. While Lees refrained from disclosing specific details regarding the cause of death, he did classify it as a result of “homicidal violence.”

The grim discovery was made in the basement of Giles’ former home, just a day after he was found guilty in the death of his wife, Nancy Giles, who had gone missing back in October 2018. Nancy Giles’ remains were later located in May 2019 in a shallow grave near a trail on the Inclined Plane hillside in downtown Johnstown.

Jilly Todaro, who was romantically involved with Brian Giles following the disappearance of his wife, also resided in the same property and vanished in December 2020. District Attorney Greg Neugebauer indicated to the press that charges related to her death are expected to be filed in the near future.

Timothy Burns, the defense attorney representing Brian Giles, abstained from commenting on the discovery of the remains until their identification was confirmed. During the trial concerning Nancy Giles’ murder, Burns highlighted his client’s reported mental health challenges and expressed disappointment at the verdict. Brian Giles, while maintaining his innocence, was escorted from the courtroom after the conviction.

Neugebauer explained that the search of the residence took place after authorities received specific information leading them to the location of the body. The findings of Jilly Todaro’s remains in the manner they were discovered significantly bolstered the prosecution’s case.

Family members of Jilly Todaro, who was 43 years old at the time of her disappearance, expressed gratitude at her recovery, allowing them to commence the healing and grieving process. Assistant District Attorney Jessica Aurandt conveyed a wish for Todaro to have witnessed the outpouring of support and efforts made to locate her, underscoring the care and respect she deserved.
