TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly striking a mother and her young son with a pickup truck while they were in a crosswalk and then fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Adams Street and North Superior on Saturday morning. According to police, three witnesses observed the driver of a Ram truck hitting the mother and son, who had the right of way and were crossing the street.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Jessica Paola-Zaragoza Aguilar, reportedly made a left turn from North Superior Street, striking the victims before driving away.
Authorities were able to locate Aguilar later that day. During questioning, she admitted to driving without a license and being in the country illegally, citing these as reasons for leaving the scene.
The mother and son sustained serious injuries in the incident. Court records indicate that the mother suffered a concussion and lost a tooth, while the boy may have long-term complications with his leg, involving both bone and muscle damage.
Aguilar is currently in custody facing charges of assault, a first-degree misdemeanor. She is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Monday.
