Authorities in Melbourne are on the lookout for a gang of teenagers believed to be responsible for a series of armed robberies at four supermarkets over the weekend. The incidents, which occurred on Saturday night, left several staff members injured and in shock.

Violent Robberies Across Multiple Suburbs

The first robbery took place at a supermarket in Cheltenham around 3.50pm on Saturday. Three young men reportedly entered the store and assaulted a 19-year-old employee, causing minor injuries. They then fled the scene in a white Mercedes, taking with them cash and cigarettes.

Shortly after, the same group armed with knives targeted a supermarket in Brighton. They demanded money and cigarettes from the staff and allegedly assaulted three workers. All three employees sustained minor injuries, with one receiving a cut on his hand from a knife.

The perpetrators once again escaped in the white Mercedes, with a fourth individual believed to be behind the wheel.

At around 6pm, the gang struck again at a supermarket in Mount Waverley, where they brandished a knife and made off with cigarettes in the same getaway vehicle. Not long after, they targeted a supermarket in Camberwell, using a knife to intimidate staff and fleeing with cash and cigarettes.

Police Pursue Swift Justice

Inspector Scott Dwyer expressed confidence that arrests in the case were imminent, thanks to a successful police operation focused on combating cigarette-related crimes. He condemned the violent actions of the offenders, believed to be between 14 and 17 years old and of various nationalities.

Witnessing a group of youths wielding knives in a store was described as “horrific” by Inspector Dwyer, who assured the public that multiple arrests would be made swiftly.

The white Mercedes used in the robberies was traced back to a home in Doncaster East, where it was allegedly stolen on June 7. The thieves reportedly entered the residence through an unlocked door and took the car while the occupants were unaware.

Despite ongoing efforts, the group remains at large, prompting police to appeal to the public for any information, as well as dashcam or CCTV footage that could aid in their investigation. Individuals with relevant details are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as authorities work to bring the perpetrators to justice.
