A man from Milwaukee, identified as 32-year-old Hla Oo, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide for his alleged involvement in a shooting that took place on June 8 near 27th and State Streets. The victim of the shooting, Joseph Watkins, aged 35, tragically lost his life in this incident.
According to prosecutors, surveillance footage captured the harrowing moments leading up to Watkins’ death. The video shows Watkins and another man engaged in a confrontation on a street corner at approximately 7 p.m. on that fateful Saturday. Watkins is seen pushing the other man down, who then retaliates by pulling out a firearm and fatally shooting Watkins.
Following the shooting, the assailant, later identified as Hla Oo, and another individual were observed fleeing the scene in a black Honda Pilot. Watkins succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Law enforcement officers conducted a thorough investigation and traced the vehicle left behind at the crime scene to an address near 45th and Lisbon Streets. Subsequently, the black Honda Pilot was discovered parked behind a residence in that area.
According to court documents, a witness came forward and informed investigators that he witnessed the altercation between the shooter and Watkins over cigarettes at the intersection of 27th and State Streets. The witness also mentioned that he had been working on the shooter’s car at the time of the incident.
The Milwaukee community has been left in shock and mourning following this senseless act of violence. The local authorities are working diligently to ensure that justice is served for Joseph Watkins and his loved ones.
