(KRON) – A convicted felon was apprehended by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office after attempting to evade deputies while in possession of a substantial quantity of prescription drugs.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. last Friday, San Mateo deputies received a report of a wanted vehicle travelling on Highway 1, entering Half Moon Bay as detected by an automatic license plate reader.

Upon locating the vehicle, deputies initiated a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as 29-year-old Moss Beach resident Hector L. Gonzalez, tried to flee. A perimeter was established to prevent his escape.

During the arrest, deputies discovered a significant amount of prescription drugs in Gonzalez’s possession. Additionally, he was found to be carrying pepper spray, which is prohibited for individuals with felony convictions according to the sheriff’s office.

Gonzalez was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Maguire Correction Facility on multiple charges, including:

  • Felony possession of prescription drugs with intent to distribute
  • Felony reckless evading
  • Resisting arrest
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Unlawful possession of pepper spray
