Habib Khan : “Pakistan Police Foil Child Marriage Attempt: Father Tried Marrying 12-Year-Old with 72-Year-Old”

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police have thwarted an attempt to marry off a 12-year-old girl to a 72-year-old man in Pakistan’s Charsadda region, according to media reports.

The elderly groom, identified as Habib Khan, and the Nikkah Khwan responsible for solemnizing the marriage were both apprehended by the police. The girl’s father, Alam Syed, had allegedly agreed to sell his daughter to the elderly man for a sum of Rs 500,000, as reported by ARY News.

Before the marriage ceremony could take place, the police intervened and arrested Habib Khan. However, the girl’s father managed to evade capture and escape from the scene.

A case has been filed against the 72-year-old groom, the girl’s father, and the Nikkah Khwan under the Child Marriage Act. Despite the existence of laws prohibiting child marriage in Pakistan, there have been several instances of such illegal unions in recent times.
