SAN MATEO — Authorities have identified a 34-year-old woman from the Central Valley town of Ceres as the suspect in a shooting incident that took place in San Mateo. The shooting was reported on Thursday afternoon near East Hillsdale Boulevard and South Norfolk Street.
According to a San Mateo police news release, officers responded to the scene at around 4:45 p.m. and determined through witness accounts that the incident occurred about a block east of the initial site on Lagos Street. When officers arrived, neither the victim nor the suspect were present, but they did find blood droplets, a cell phone, and shell casings at the scene.
Shortly after the shooting, police received information that the suspect had fled into a nearby apartment building. Meanwhile, a gunshot victim from the incident surfaced in San Carlos and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Officers surrounded the apartment building on Lagos Street and engaged police negotiators to communicate with the suspect. The woman eventually surrendered to authorities, and a search of the apartment led to the discovery of a gun believed to have been used in the shooting.
The suspect has been booked into San Mateo County jail on charges of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle.
