In a shocking incident in midtown Tucson, a 19-year-old driver was arrested for driving under the influence after crashing his car into a power pole, causing significant damage and power outages in the area.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday morning at the intersection of N. Mountain Ave and E. Fort Lowell Rd. The driver, identified as Angel Gudino-Duarte, was reportedly driving at a high speed and was suspected of impairment at the time of the crash.

Witnesses reported seeing the car engulfed in flames, with the impact of the crash causing power outages that affected nearby residents. Despite the severity of the crash, only minor injuries were reported.

Following the incident, Duarte was arrested for DUI and charged with Felony Criminal Damage. He was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail to await further legal proceedings.

In response to the incident, the Tucson Police Department released a statement on their Facebook page condemning the reckless behaviour. “Both speeding and impaired driving are preventable and unacceptable, putting our community at risk,” the statement read.

The authorities also emphasized the importance of responsible driving, stating that “These behaviours have real consequences. Remember, it’s a lot cooler to drive within the speed limit and remain sober than to face the repercussions of a crash.”
